This project addresses the corruption and exploitation within the pharmaceutical industry, focusing on the impact of drugs like OxyContin introduced by Purdue Pharma in the 1990s. Despite known risks and growing addiction, big pharma continued to mislead the public and over-prescribe. My work highlights the ongoing influence of big pharma on the American medical system and the opioid crisis. Originally inspired by cartoon sketches, the project evolved through research, resulting in a visual approach that reflects America’s complex relationship with this issue. The creative process blended historical context and social impact, using subtle messaging to address the problem without direct confrontation.
